This month's focus: Leadership

Leadership…. It Does Matter!

Andrew Carnegie noted, “No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself or to get all the credit for doing it.”

Leadership is more than a word or action; it is a life force that once properly enacted can bring about long-lasting results and change future courses.

Leadership is the one binding trait and quality that is worth the effort and toil for those who seek to influence others to engage. Though taught, it must in all sincerity be earned. It may be applied or assumed. It is becoming to men of greatness or men of the moment. Leadership will arrive at the instant it is truly needed but must be recognized to succeed.

Leadership is rewarding but lonely. It commands but more importantly serves. It is diverse in representation and tends to repeat itself. Leadership is the answer yet brings with it the questions of “why, how, and who?”

Embrace it, learn it, and prepare: for one day, you will entertain its presence.

Leadership...it does matter!

Here are some questions for reflection:

  • How would someone know you are a leader?
  • What makes leadership vital to achievement?
  • What are three key traits of an impactful leader? Which of these do you possess or should strive to possess?
  • Complete this sentence: I lead best when...
  • What is your definition of leadership? How can you better bring that definition to life more effectively for yourself?
