10 Simple Rules to Bring Out the Best in Others

Building motivation and a stronger self-image in others is a critical activity for business owners and business leaders.

How business team members perform and how each sees themselves in their performance will most often determine the success of the attainment of business goals. The more confident and functionally assured team members become, the greater the potential for superior performance. Here are 10 simple rules that can enhance your potential to bring out the best in those who are key to your success:

  1. Create a business environment where excellence is a norm.
  2. Have no false assumptions: expect the best performance from your team constantly.
  3. Make sure you fully understand the needs of each team member and then work to see that those needs are met consistently.
  4. Recognize, publicize and celebrate achievement.
  5. Let it be known that failure is a learning step, not a fatal step.
  6. Push collaboration as a vehicle of personal development and team success.
  7. Be genuine in saying “Thank You” to individual team members on a daily basis.
  8. Keep yourself positive and motivated. Walk with a smile on your face, a spring in your step; and, whether it is immediately true or untrue, keep your focus on the greater achievements of the future. People imitate what they see often.
  9. Utilize the competitive urge in people by helping team members be THEIR best not demand they become THE best.
  10. Develop, encourage and allow team members to take the lead in business initiatives. Be a partner, not a boss. Never forget what the reverse spelling of boss implies. Jump on their “bandwagons” to promote success.

As noted, speaker Cavett Robert once said, “Three billion people on the face of the earth go to bed hungry every night, but four billion people go to bed every night hungry for a simple word of encouragement and recognition.”

Use these 10 rules to help you ensure that the best is always brought out in others each day.
