Business Moment: Never Get Too Comfortable

After author Mickey Spillane, the famous writer of detective stories, achieved his first big success, he decided to work less and play more. He took up residence at a very popular seaside resort and started having a great time.

In the little time he did find to work, the ideas just would not come. His mind was not focused on the activity that produced his success. Being financially secure though, he wasn’t really concerned. As he played, his bank account began to steadily shrink. As situations sometimes occur, unexpected bills suddenly appeared. He discovered little funds to cover the expense. Spillane’s financial situation suddenly went from comfortable to desperate.

As he began to ponder his dilemma, good salable ideas began to percolate in his mind. Out of necessity, he sat down and wrote one of his best stories. As a result of this experience, Mickey Spillane went on to enjoy a long and outstanding career and made his fictional detective Mike Hammer a legend throughout the world.

The moral of the story is simple: never allow comfort to replace your ability to achieve. Know when it is time to work and when it is time to play. The greater balance you employ, the greater level of success and satisfaction you are positioned to enjoy.

Energy Leadership: Interpretations

Energy Leadership

The Big 4 energy blocks keep you stuck and prevent you from achieving what you want in your life. We’ve already explored limiting beliefs and assumptions. This month, let’s look at the third energy block, interpretations.

When you interpret something, you create an opinion about an event, situation, or experience. In essence, you create an explanation and then look for evidence to support its validity. When you make an interpretation, you don’t even see that other explanations exist. In actuality, though, an interpretation often represents only one viewpoint among the many that are possible.

Your interpretations hold a strong energetic charge, which affects your emotions and actions. If you believe your viewpoint of a particular situation is the only explanation, you might not be aware of another point of view. You may end up wasting a lot of time and resources marching off in the wrong direction. Because you don’t see that other possibilities exist, you remain stuck in your story, and feel like you have no control over the outcome. ...Click Here to Read More

Feature Article: What the Three Little Pigs Can Teach You

The story of the Three Little Pigs is a long-term classic. The Big Bad Wolf huffed and puffed and blew down the houses of straw and sticks of two little pigs; but, the piggies were all saved when they ran to the brick house of the third pig. The strength of the bricks in the third house was too much for the hot air of the wolf.

It is a great story of how transforming from individual approaches to a teamwork approach can help you better utilize your strengths. Finally, the wolf ended up beaten in the end as the pigs tricked him to come down the chimney after them. This action proved to be his demise as he fell into a boiling pot of water. This confirms the point that regardless of the huffing and puffing you may do about this issue or that, most often the final result will be to find yourself in “hot water.”

In today’s world there are many things that occur during our day and our week which, left unchecked, produce anger, resentment, feelings of being a victim and  result in unnecessary stress. Some might say that these results are simply part of life. Others may imply that bad situations are created by a failure to do enough of the right things. Regardless of the position you may take, understanding what not to do could be the most valuable piece of reality you will ever face...Click Here to Read More
