Business Moment: The RIGHT Training Just Might Help You Conquer A World

Well over 2300 years ago, a father made a wise decision concerning his son. He sought out and chose the greatest scholar of his age to tutor his young son in liberal arts. Aristotle instructed the young son in areas like architecture, music, literature, politics, and natural sciences.

Several years later, this young man in his twenties, set out on a quest to conquer the world at that time. He did, and did so in just eleven years. He also gained fame not only as a great leader, excellent visionary strategist and flawless administrator, but also for possessing great courage and knowledge. His name was Alexander the Great.

Development of people is vital to the success of any organization. It does not matter about the size of the organization, the product offerings or the location. What matters is what is done to build the people in order for growth and success goals to be reached. To prepare others to perform, to lead, to soar in results, you must give them the proper training today. Training determines what each individual will become and in essence what your business or organization will become as well. As noted author and business great Joe. L. Griffith once said, “Money spent on the brain is never spent in vain.”

Feature Article: Today Matters

There is a great story from the African continent that highlights the importance of approaching each day with the right perspective. It begins:

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you’d better be running.

That is what it takes in every aspect of life today.

How you plan your day and what you actually get accomplished matters. Each day must be approached as an opportunity.  Your mental reality will very much control your physical output.

Energy Leadership Article: Emotions in the Workplace

Energy Leadership

Emotions don’t belong in the workplace – or do they? Depends on who you ask! If you ask catabolic leaders, they’re likely to agree. But anabolic leaders have a different point of view – they understand that emotions can’t be left at the office door. Our comparison between anabolic and catabolic leaders continues with an exploration of how aware they are of their own and others’ emotions, how they express their emotions, and how they manage or control them in the work environment.

Awareness, expression, and management of emotion are the three main aspects of emotional intelligence. In the Energy Leadership Development System™, emotional intelligence (EI) is defined as the ability to distinguish, understand, and have an awareness of how thoughts and feelings connect with outward displays and behaviors, as well as the ability to manage and express appropriate emotions and help others do the same.

Let’s look at each of the components of EI and see how they are different in catabolic and anabolic leaders.

Awareness

  • Catabolic - Not only are these leaders unaware of their own emotions, but they are unaware of other people’s emotions as well. They’re also unaware of the effect they have on others.
  • Anabolic – These leaders are not only aware of their and other’s emotions, but they’re able to step back and recognize that their emotions are not automatic (emotions arise from interpretations). They also look for clues in their emotions, asking questions such as “Why did I have this response, and what can I learn from this?”....Click Here to Read More
