Business Moment: The Value of Time

It has been said that people who make the worst use of their time are the same ones who complain that there is never enough time. How are you using your time?

There is a great Benjamin Franklin quote that illustrates time and its value. Franklin once noted, “If we take care of the minutes, the years will take care of themselves.” One minute does not seem like very much but never underestimate the total impact of each minute you live.

Think with me for a moment. Let’s propose that a minute is worth one penny. You are walking along and see a penny lying on the sidewalk. You pass it by because it seems hardly worth the effort of stopping, looking around to be sure no one is watching, leaning over, and picking it up. Now, let’s double that penny in value each day for a month. At the end of the first week, you would have 64 pennies. That is not much but did you know that by the end of a month, you would have 536,870,912 pennies? Put that into dollars and this equals an unbelievable sum: $5,368,709.12. How does that sound?

The value you place on each minute of every day does have a valuable cumulative impact on what you do and what you accomplish in your life. Make the RIGHT use of your time in every endeavor and you could build a valuable fortune.

Energy Leadership: The Assumptions You Make

Energy Leadership

Last month we explored limiting beliefs, the first of the “Big 4” energy blocks. These prevent you from making conscious choices and reaching your potential. Let’s take a look now at another one of those blocks – the assumptions you make.

An assumption is a belief that is based on the premise that because something happened in the past, it is automatically going to happen again.

When you make choices based on your assumptions, you are letting the past control the future. Assumptions hold you back, because when you already “know” that something won’t work, you probably won’t even consider doing it. Even if you do attempt it, you won’t have a lot of energy for, or be engaged in, what you’re doing, since you don’t really believe it can work. When you hold on to your assumptions, you miss out on many possibilities.

Imagine this scenario: A new salesperson has done five sales presentations, ...Click Here to Read More

Feature Article: You Can Make It Happen

Recently, I re-read an old article about Stedman Graham, author of the book, You Can Make It Happen. I was fascinated by his “rules of the road” in guiding his personal life. Those rules apply to virtually everyone in their daily actions as well. Read and reflect upon his rules and strive to examine how the rules might apply in your life.

First, be honest. You have no value to other people if they can’t believe what you say. This is especially true in the business world. Your customer must believe in you and in your counsel.

Second, do the work that is required. What you put into a project or plan or endeavor is reflected in how it turns out. Is this not true? Your thoughts and your aspirations can be bountiful; but, if you do not elect to devote the work energy it takes to make those thoughts and aspirations reality, it becomes a “mind activity” of waste and folly...Click Here to Read More
