HELLO!
Hello Club Champions! This is Herman Dixon and as you may or may not know, I am the Mid-Atlantic Coordinator for ShelterBox and a member of the Ambassador Council. I want to express my sincere appreciation for the great work you are doing to help spread the word about ShelterBox and our work throughout the world. I have made a decision to begin sending you a copy of news updates that I send out to the ambassadors. I know you receive newsletters and other notes from ShelterBox but decided that it might be good for you to be better informed on matters that may not be covered in their entirety in the ShelterBox newsletters and updates. The news update you are receiving (see ShelterBox News section below) was sent out in the past week to all our Mid-Atlantic Ambassadors. Our current need is of course to support the challenging demands we now face with the earthquake work for Turkey and a portion of Syria. For those who are also Rotary members, please be sure your club is aware of what is ongoing and also how your club and/or district might be able to assist. Those who might not be members of Rotary, please feel free to alert those in your community you feel vital to broadcasting our efforts. I do promise to not overdo any communications as I understand everyone has enough email coming daily. Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have. If you feel at any time you would like to investigate becoming an ambassador, please let me know. I will be happy to discuss that with you and see that you have complete information to make a decision. Many of our current ambassadors actually began as Club Champions. SHELTERBOX NEWS
As you may be aware we have had a very tragic event in Syria and Turkey with the 7.8 earthquake. The death toll has now reached 5 figures and continues to grow. Please keep these folks in your thoughts and prayers as they face this growing tragedy. You may have seen an emergency appeal from Kerry Murray, our USA president for funds, to enable ShelterBox to be better positioned to address the challenge ahead. We are now assembling to complete our assessments and focus on, when criteria is met, how we can best serve in this disaster. I would encourage you to alert your districts and involve if possible any District Governors or others in related roles within your district and communities in establishing a possible action plan to assist in our need for funds. I know my district 7770 is currently evaluating this and I look for us to launch an effort within the next few days. Thanks for your commitment to ShelterBox and to the many efforts such as this current challenge that we face. More to come soon!
