7 Habits for Success (Habit #7)

Habits have a way of impacting our lives. That impact can be either bad or good depending upon the circumstance and the individual or individuals involved. From a bad perspective, we get into a routine of doing things that prevent us from being our best. Looking from a good perspective, we get into a routine of doing things that bring out the very best we have to offer. The decision we must make is simple: “Which habit do we desire to embody, good or bad?”

This is the seventh HABIT that can have a positive impact on your business.

Habit #7: Maintain a superior work/life balance.  When it is time to work, give it a “Super Bowl” performance. Engross yourself in effective effort. Do not allow the “little things” to steal your happiness. Focus on “$100 /hour” activities not “minimum wage” tasks. When it is time to play, set aside your work activities and enjoy the time. Everyone should make time to “recharge” their batteries. All work and no play make life a huge challenge. BUT, there is also a warning with this habit. It is imperative that you do not allow one area to overshadow the other.  In other words, give your work at least a full-time “40-hour” weekly effort. That focus should enable you to meet and exceed any goals you may set. That effort then leaves you 128 hours to sleep and have fun outside of work each and every week. Annually that means you have 2,000 hours to devote to your business which includes time for at least 2 weeks of vacation and 6,736 hours of free time to sleep, recreate and recharge your personal batteries. Balance is the key in living a more fulfilled life.

Habits are not always bad. They can be good for you. Good habits can make a difference. Try to catch these 7 habits and see if each will better your life and your business. A simple 28 days of accountable effort could bring you rewards of less stress, higher productivity, and importantly, a more satisfying life and career. The choice is yours and the results could positively and more effectively impact your future.
