7 Habits for Success (Habit #6) |
Habits have a way of impacting our lives. That impact can be either bad or good depending upon the circumstance and the individual or individuals involved. From a bad perspective, we get into a routine of doing things that prevent us from being our best. Looking from a good perspective, we get into a routine of doing things that bring out the very best we have to offer. The decision we must make is simple: “Which habit do we desire to embody, good or bad?”
This is the sixth HABIT that can have a positive impact on your business.
Habit #6: Always do everything in your power to operate a profitable business. This simple statement means much more than its appearance. It involves your commitment to market to and approach the best prospects possible.
- Ensuring that you are continuously monitoring your results
- Offering all your products and services to clients or potential clients and ensuring the marketplace knows what you have to offer
- Understanding when and where you need investment in your business, where applicable
- Employing the best of the best staff
- Continuously developing your staff and yourself
- Being open to change and more effective means of operation
- Creating a professional environment for the public, and your business
- Working from a business plan not a “hit and miss” approach
Profit determines, to a great extent, your future operational existence. It is not a “dirty” word. As Duncan Menzies once said, “Profit is a must. There can be no security for any employee in any business that doesn’t make money. There can be no growth for that business. There can be no opportunity for the individual to achieve his personal ambitions unless his company makes money.” When you keep profit in the forefront, you keep hope alive.
Next week, we will investigate the seventh and final good habit.
