Business Short

How ‘Bout A Hot Dog?

He was hard of hearing so he had no radio. He had trouble with his eyes so he had no newspaper.

But he sold good hot dogs!

He put up a sign on the highway telling passers by how good his hot dogs were. He stood by the side of the road and cried, “Buy a hot dog mister!” And, people bought!

He increased his meat and bun orders and bought a bigger stove to take care of his trade. He got his son home from college to help him. But then, something happened. His son said, “Dad, haven’t you been listening to the radio and reading the papers? There is an economic downturn. The domestic and the international situations are terrible!” The father thought, “Well, my son has been to college. He listens to the radio and reads the papers so he ought to know.” So the father cut down on his bun and meat orders. He took down his advertising signs on the highway and did not bother to stand along the roadway to sell his hot dogs. His hot dog sales seemed to fall overnight!

The man gazed upon the bare kitchen and muttered, “You were right son. We certainly are in the middle of an economic downturn!”

You see, while you cannot hide the issues that address business virtually daily; you can allow it to so consume your mind that you abandon the sound principles of business that enabled you to gain the success you enjoy. As long as the hot dog salesman focused on selling his hot dogs, his business grew. The same economic challenge existed for him that did when his so called “educated son” made him aware of what was happening. At that point, he allowed the loss of will to overcome the odds to suck the very essence of success from him. He abandoned the very principles of sales that got him to the level of success he enjoyed. The result: defeat!

Where are you in your business operations?

  • Are you on the street asking, “Buy a hot dog mister”?
  • Are you putting out signs informing people what you do? OR,
  • Are you so consumed about what is being said concerning the economy that you are cutting back, and abandoning the very actions that helped you get to where you are in your business career?

We all have a choice to make. Sell your hot dogs! Up your bun and meat orders! Put out your signs! Ask people to buy or invest in your product or business! Push forward when others cry “stay back!” Take control of your business! Work your plans and enjoy the success you deserve to have. Find a way to win. You can do it!!
