Key Thoughts on Leading from the Wizard of Oz
If I were to awaken in a magical land and find myself besieged by a vindictive witch, as I attempted to find my way to the only person who could help me return home, it would be very unnerving to say the least.

Dorothy found herself in that exact position. However, after settling in and then facing the reality of the moment, surveying the possibilities and finally arriving at the only logical solution, she established a very clear mission: “I must get to Oz and see the Wizard.”
Strong leaders have a crystal clear mission.
- They take action to insure their goals are achieved.
- They also remain encouraged despite the obstacles in their path.
- They focus on solutions and encourage others by providing hope.
Dorothy, on her journey, was a visible example of such leadership. Everyone with whom she came in contact along the way was offered hope. The cowardly lion received hope that he could find courage. The tin man that he would be given a heart, and the scarecrow that even he would get a brain. In the end, she even encouraged the wizard to come out of hiding and take action himself. Though she lost her first opportunity to return home, she remained steadfast and, in the end, clicked her heels and soon found the reality of her home.
Strong leaders hold firm when all around them seems lost. They persevere, seek solutions and most often in the end, uncover a way to win.
