Business Short

Step Up and Accept Responsibility

There are no perfect people. There are no perfect situations. Mistakes happen daily. Sometimes those mistakes are huge. Other times we find mistakes to be minor. In the end, there is a cause and also a responsible party, either directly or in an indirect capacity, that is responsible.

Accepting responsibility for shortfalls builds credibility. Deflecting that responsibility to others when it was the deflector’s pain to bear, lessens the respect and believability of the deflector to others. While the situation may produce seemingly unbearable trauma currently, if responsibility is accepted, it can set the stage for credibility to flourish and also validate an individual’s word.

Deflection, deniability, and defiance as it pertains to accepting responsibility for mistakes, build no allies. Stepping forward and uttering acceptance for those same mistakes provides the funds necessary to pay the price for responsibility.
